Sincerely the skills of programmers in general have gone down in the last 40 years. Programmers before had much more in depth knowledge of the actual hardware and architecture and had absolute control over the actual "metal". Today programmers are distracted by high level abstractions, and layers of frameworks, libraries, etc. that programming has turned into copy-pasting boiler plate code, and thus even a simple AI could do it. It is not "programming" anymore but truthfully it is just "configuring" a general purpose framework with "scripting". I think the software industry is going down the wrong path, and it won't end well..
