China has self-driving trucks that also include drivers. Drivers report far less fatigue & ability to do longer hauls as a result. This does cut down on number of drivers needed if one can do more, but generally the work force is ok with this since those working get more pay for the longer haul. Drivers are also included in the design & implementation of the self-riving features.
