GenAI replicates and regurgitates the input. An artists different Artistic influences tug and pull at the artist, fighting for their attention. Not just the art of their chosen medium, but all art that has emotionally impacted them. After all that, the resulting art gets filtered through a lifetime of the artists lived experience and all of their perspectives and emotional interactions. I love Mike Mignolas work. I've tried unsuccessfully for decades to replicate it. But everytime I try, I can't stop the influence of John Blanche, Tsutomu Nehi, Rembrandt, Fear Factory, Robin Hobb, Current Value, H.G. Wells, Ridley Scott, or the memory of the time I stood on a seabed at the top of the mountain or had a nice ice cream etc all interfering and tugging at the work I'm making the way planets pull at comets and throw them around a solar system. The art that comes out of This process dishy look anything like Mignolas work, but it does irrevocably and utterly look like something only I could make. For better or worse. An LLM will never be able to do that from a prompt and a data set of other peoples stolen art. On that note, if your business model relies on the theft of other people work.
