I want to add something to people who are casual AI art users: We all know that when it comes to commercial use and legal issues this whole thing is a giant mess right now, but if you are someone who enjoys art in any form, be it AI art, mixed media, editing AI images to your liking etc.. if you're simply a person who wants to be creative for any reason and decides to use AI, we are quite similar in the sense that we all just want to make artworks the way we can for self expression and fun. So all I'm asking any newcomers: - Don't rip off individuals, don't impersonate anyone, if you're deliberately using someone's name as a prompt give credit to that person and add something to make your works unique instead of replicating what they do! - Just overall be transparent about it and don't pretend that you did digital or traditional painting or something else. - Please consider not paying for any AI services that capitalize on other people's works, try using free tools like Stable Diffusion if you have the hardware for it and check out upcoming ethical AI tools when they will be more widely available! - Respect individuals who don't want their work replicated or used and keep respecting their decision if they pass away or quit making art. And please consider leaving out living artists or recently deseased artists who have living family members! It's not really possible right now with the biggest AI models, but leaving their names out of the prompts and not training custom models with their works is something that already makes a difference. I think these are already unwritten rules in the art world no matter what is your medium of choice, and I do suspect that AI will be the gateway into art for many people who are entering an unfamiliar territory. If you are someone new who never made any art before, I encourage you to learn more about art and about the art world and pick up other skills as well like image editing or 3D, maybe basic digital drawing and painting as well, so you can make your own art with AI assistance instead of fully relying on the AI to make something for you with minimal actual user input, and this way what you make is not just a machine's interpretation based on other people's works.
