I lived in China for 7 years. I agree with much of this, but also believe that it is still yet worse in ways we don't know. Like life in America, we know that intelligence agencies and big tech are doing things to us that we can observe but not quite prove. I saw an amount of surveillance in China pumped up on steroids compared to The States. The cameras that use facial recognition when entering the country have existed at least since 2016, and are only now being used in the US here in 2023. WeChat is the way everyone in China gets paid now. And we as foreigners had to watch how much we held on that account because many had our pay taken from us if we were, say, on a particular visa and yet still receiving periodic payments that weren't consistent with our reason for being in China. This happened very regularly. So, it's far more Orwellian than this video suggests in that it is done in a very covert manner.
