Disabled artist here! Both mental and physical disabilities which impact my ability to create a LOT. I have severe hand tremors, random seizure episodes, migraines, you name it, ive probably got it. It makes art really hard sometimes. It makes it frustrating. BUT I persist anyways due to my passion for it. Also there are assistive devices made by and for disabled people that help with this. Not to mention very different mediums we can utilize to craft what art we want if we put our minds to it. Both for traditional and digital art. Any self proclaimed “disabled artist” who says they can’t create so they have a machine create for them is so full of shit imo. If I use AI to generate a paper for me I’m not actually writing the paper. Same goes for art and otherwise. I’m in a group of multiple disabled artists from nerve issues to joint diseases and MORE. Creating isn’t stuck to one specific medium. You can create in so many ways, speaking words and stories, painting, crotchet, a wide variety of crafts that can be made to be accommodated for numerous levels of disability. I use some physical tools to steady my hands a bit more when I draw, and using digital the stabilizing tools are extremely helpful for getting me the lines I want despite my hands actively trembling uncontrollably. Same goes for my friends whose joints are deteriorating. They find a way. We find a way. We aren’t hapless or helpless the way these AI dudebros claim. Nor are we children who need to be advocated for and spoken for by the same people who get irate over seeing accommodative devices for disabled people then having a fit that it’s not for them therefore it’s “useless” in their eyes. Trust in the fact that if AI were actually meant as an assistive tool for disabled artists, not only would abled folks exploit it, but they would relentless mock us for utilizing it let alone “needing” it. But since they can use us as a weapon of sorts they have no shame in trying to hold our ailments over people’s heads when they don’t even know us.
