Unpopular opinion: AI in fact can mash up a beautiful (and maybe even unique) art. It would be rare, mostly by accident, but I don't think that lack of intention would make the final result objectively worse (*we* as a species are the result of something quite similar, all chances, accidents and environmental pressure; "intention" kind of didn't exist through most of our natural history). And here is the "tragedy of AI": people who could help it create those accidental beautiful things (apply the right kind of environmental pressure) are also the people who (1) don't need AI to create something beautiful, (2) and therefore would see sifting through miriad failures to find that one cool thing a fucking waste of time (I am an artist myself, albeit not very good one; hand-drawing what I want *is* hella easier than getting AI to understand what I want *and* also not mash up a fucking garbage; but maybe it's just my extremely one-sided perspective?) Ahem, back to the tragedy thing: people who could make AI mash up something really beautiful and understand that beauty won't bother to do it and therefore are not the AI corps clients. The clients are those AI stans who see the most generic-looking things as the peak of art. They are the "environmental pressure". I won't say "AI is doomed", I mean, it's developing in the age where intention is a thing. But my own hopes for AI development (and I'm a very techno-optimistic person) are getting lower and lower every day.
