Every step up that chart is less and less realistic. If you read research instead of press releases from the car makers you can see that we've probably hit a ceiling on how autonomous they can be, driving is just too dynamic a task without completely overhauling our road infrastructure in a way that will never be practical or affordable.
I like "optimistic tech stories" but to me that means finding things that are promising, not squishing something else into an optimistic shape.
