Hallucination is the wrong word. It is just bullshitting. "AIs" (and some humans) don't care if what they are saying is true or not... The goal is just to get a desired effect PS: Hoffman was explicitly making a simplified model of neuronal signaling when he created artificial neural network. Yes, it also approximates the vast majority of signaling / regulatory systems within cells too... There's some deep stuff as to why, but it pretty much boils down to "it works"
