Nobody ever thought that this might be a simple case of sabotage? Autonomous driving system have many opponents. It's possible they may managed to infiltrate the maintenance department and tinkering with the sensors. And then when accident happen, they all came out of the woodwork and to say "I TOLD YOU SO".
