Without intending to discredit the awards and intellectual career of our guest in the field of cognitive psychology, let's not forget the fact that he comes from Google. These large companies have profited from the "AI boom" over the last decade. Making the world's population believe that they will soon "think" as well as or better than us is part of their business. It's not that I deny the scope of generative AI today, but I think all this catastrophism surrounding it is arbitrarily profitable for these large companies (to which Hinton belonged), and beyond making our current cyber operations somewhat easier, it's not a big deal. I recommend investigating the work of Ramon Lopez de Mantaras; he's not an "AI popularizer" but rather a researcher of the engineering behind this new form of software. He debunks "catastrophic" myths, providing more grounded certainties about what AI means.
