AI could be immensely useful for the mundaneness and tediousness of animation. Say you need to color 50 shots by hand, AI can do all that in no time and a human can go back and put in shading, lighting, comp, etc. AI was already used to enhance great projects like Spider-Verse where it was used to make the hand drawn looking lines on the characters.
Cutting the intention behind backgrounds and character design is not the same.
