Until we have a clear definition of what sentience is we cannot determine if AI is or ever will be sentient. There is still heated debate going on as to whether humans actually have free will, and we still haven't soved the puzzle of consciousness yet so maybe we should focus on ourselves before we start projecting onto LLMs.
