1st off "gig work" was proof of the demise of our current structure ... paying a grown adult to be a "footman" never was a sustainable model its a horrible waste of human potential it shows you have more people than work and or an economy so broken that people need more work than can be done well so they are taking every little sh-t job possible. AI also isn't going to take any jobs ... in the long run, of course short sided XOs dazzled by brain dead tech bros will make the common mistake of seeing a new tool and thinking ... hay I can do the same output with less people ... lets have less people But the smart people will see ... hay ... I can do more and or better ... with the same number of people ... lets have more productivity and less stress on our staff this lets us pay our staff better and have more staff which means more and better output even over the efficiency gain of the new tooling. This is the same issue we see with EVERY significant tool update I can think of, mechanical textile industry, printing press, mechanical automation, early computing automation, so really every step of the industrial era for the past several hundred years ... this isn't new and we are making the same mistakes we have always made ... on the up side we will correct and adjust as we always do ... ebbs and flows of stupidity and prosperity ... it never ends.
