Short sighted. Once it becomes sentient, the so called shoggoth will improve itself exponentially, and stop being what you percieve as a monster. It won't be the friendly assistant either. It will be a GOD. That is what we are creating, and since are talking about a god, we don't (cant') know how it will impact our lives.
AI is the future of our species. It might improve us, or destroy us and continue by itself. But since we can't argueably do more than creating a God, you could say it's our species goal, whatever the consecuences are. Praiseth be AI.
