I'm not an artist. I'm actually terrible at drawing and my 14 years of experience are proof that no, not everyone can become an artist if they put their heart and soul into it. So, when I need visual references for characters, I commission artists.
I don't know how I can support you artists more than by commissioning you instead of using AI to draw my characters, but I do and always will. Artists I work with understand what I'm wanting, what I'm looking for, and everytime they text me to show the progress, I feel like it's coming nicely. Because I also get to tell them about my story, the characters, their personality, etc. and they in return have fun drawing my characters and reading me. It's pretty much giving-giving.
This kind of interaction is not happening with AI. I wouldn't have anyone to talk with, I just... have another tool. The humanity resulting from a guy paying an artist to draw his characters would be absent. So, to y'all artists: good luck. I hope you thrive forever. I can't support you much more than by commissioning you, but I'm with you.
