Here we are at the question: can a robot be considered alive? In my opinion, yes. If you look at our human mind, we are just a very VERY complex computer made of organic matter made of non-organic matter. Does it matter so much if the computer isn't made of organic matter if it does the same job? What if we build a computer out of organic materials that works exactly like ones made of copper and silicon, is it alive or not? We currently have computers much smarter than a lot of animals on the entire animal kingdom. Look at the ants. We could make robots like them and program them into feeling some kind of pain. We can make robots that can learn. I believe that life is a state that can be achieved trough evolution of biological species or by evolution of computers. Maybe after million years we have extremely complex robots that decide to build things out of organic matter. They might start building animals and then we have a cycle. I may be wrong but I don't discriminate intelligence so much. After all our brain is just a complex computer.
