The complaints of artists would come across more genuine, it they were creating art from nothing.
An artist starts off by looking at, and making a record (in memory) of the art they encounter. With the exception of art training books, none of those works are being accessed with a special license for learning.
In this way, AI is doing the same thing as artists.
