Here in Texas, about 15 years ago, we had the red-light camera plague. I remember running a red light, I knew it captured the violation immediately because of the camera flash. I had full intentions of paying the fine once my ticket arrived in the mail. When it did arrive, i saw something peculiar that caused me to pause and reconsider paying the ticket. The ticket instructed me to send a money order to some private company that was headquartered somewhere like Ogden, Utah. My initial intent to pay had spawned out of fear that a bench warrant would be issued. But i couldn't see myself paying a company that was two states away for a municipal traffic violation, nor could i see a bench warrant issued for me based off of information provided to a municipal court by a private company. My decision was not to pay that ticket, or the following 2 tickets, and if i had been issued a warrant, i would've argued to the judge that the tickets had been paid and the utah based company must have either applied them to the wrong account, or perhaps stole them, since the payment process made it unable to have a receipt. None of the 3 tickets i received were ever acknowledged, never paid, nothing. And not one time did i ever have difficulty registerting my vehicle, renewing my license, nor was I issued a warrant. The redlight cameras were a scam designed to make financial fruits easier to pick, and every ticket was a shot in the dark. Other than the first ticket that was sent in the mail, there was never intention to seek justice or put any more effort into collecting payment or argue my guilt. All they wanted was a fear-payment. The cameras were outlawed within a year or two of their installation. I would wager that this was because they were indiscriminate. So the best we can hope for regarding AI is for some senator or some other high ranking politician to become humiliated or victimized from flock cameras with hopes that it fast tracks their abolishment.
