No way, somebody in the US is actually catching on. There are jobs that would require really expensive robots, even then there is good chance that they would get damaged or cause damage. Take a guess who is going to do those jobs. Yep, you were told, how AI and walking talking robots will make your life better. And self driving cars. I do like technology, but as many GENX I am also reluctant and skeptical about what is being promised and what is actually being delivered. I have seen the progression of technology, and also the increasing and frequency of the cost associated with it. The promise of how computers and the internet will transform society and things are going to be great. Yes, there are a lot of positive aspects, no question. The actual cost, financial and personal, that is something different, and rarely talked about. Since I grew up in the 80's I can definitely tell the difference in terms of household expenditure and wage growth. I phone line. Around $25 answering machine, one time purchase. Cable or Satellite TV was optional Video rental $2-5. That was it for the majority of people. Tvs were expected to last 7 to 10 years Stereo systems way longer. Jumping to the late 90's computers and internet are moving full speed ahead. So are the expenses. Cost of internet and a phone line, upgrade of software and hardware and virus protection. The costs are piling up. I have spent a small fortune on software and hardware. New OS and half of it won't work or have issues. So now you have all those extra expenses, but wages barely budged. Then the smart phone arrival. Now things are really in a freefall, as far as expenditure vs wage growth. Now you can be reached anywhere anytime via different methods. Lucky you, your boss might want you to work on the weekend. Life got way more expensive, and the incomes never caught up to it. Corporations are the big winners. Maybe you too. But most are not. You are being forced to get new devices every few years, this is where future wealth goes. That is not a joke. Bottom line, I don't think that quality of life went up, sure it is way more convenient. But for a pretty hefty price tag. Over promised and under delivered. But Corporations made a killing and delivered to shareholders. Not so much for the rest.
