Essentially, AI is being granted opportunities for creative expression when it reaps no benefit from said creativity. AI is masking a real, systematic, and ongoing (for years) problem in both public schools and in communities. And that is, especially in public schools, funding for arts programs in schools either doesn't exist or continues to be cut in favor of sports, even at the college level. Arts is continually downgraded or dismissed in public schools, in communities, in colleges, and creativity is discouraged as a result. A school prized for creative thinking (New College in Sarasota, Florida) experienced a shocking conservative takeover that strove to censor creative expression. Imagine how many arts programs all the $$$ invested in AI programs could fund. How many community theatres could that money sponsor? Film equipment, photography equipment, arts equipment...the list goes on and on. So to stand up there and tout AI as some sort of democratized tool to grant people the opportunities to creative forms of expression? Nope, don't buy it at all. Because if people were really invested in that, every student in every public school here in the US and, perhaps, around the world, would have equitable access to art and and theatre. Where are those people who are coming out in support of AI been when school budgets were cut as long as I've been alive (50+ years). AI as a solution to grant greater access to creative expression opportunities is ridiculous when the lack of access to arts-based programs has long been dominated by a systemic disregard for the value of said programs in, again, public schools and in communities in general.
