I work in tech and work adjacent to many of the people working in AI and others. The part that I feel like everyone misses is that... AI really isn't replacing anyone's full job and most people that work with LLMs realize that it is going to be a minor efficiency boost at best. LLMs aren't going to achieve gen AI and most engineers I work with and experts we follow tend to agree with that. They are more or less likely technically at their peak with some minor improvements in chaining them together to work better in the works. These companies are laying off tens of thousands of people to appease investors because their finances are getting worse and worse and they are doing everything they can to show the line going up. That's really the answer. Every reason they say otherwise is BS to try and save face. It's all about making the line go up so that the executives stock package vests and they can walk away with big bonuses. The entire incentive structure is to appease the investors.
