I don't think AI should be used for creating full images or references. I also think the only art they should be allowed to scrape is public domain stuff. So I absolutely applaud poisoning as much art as possible. That said, the only thing I think it's useful for is ... I want to say the closest term is blocking for writing. In cinema, blocking is telling the actors where to stand and telling the camera how to move to direct the viewer's eyes. In the real world, the director and camera man and actors are all there to see what they are doing. When you're writing, it's all in your head and your head is notoriously bad at putting in the details because you already know what you're trying to convey. So enter AI. The AI has zero clue what I want except by my actual descriptions. I throw my descriptive text as is into the natural language generator and see what it spits out. Sometimes, it's complete gibberish. Sometimes, it's close to what I had in mind. But it gives me a way to vaguely simulate what a random person reading my description might think of the scene. And no one will EVER see the monstrosities that have been created in this way. They aren't the work. They are a tool to assist in the work. The same as using a ballistics calculator to ensure I'm writing a cool scifi gun, and not a kind of mid tier modern assault rifle. That math matters, but no one reading the story needs me to spend 500 words describing that math (the ones with an interest will do that themselves, then point out how I'm wrong anyway... yay). Would I rather have an artist give me a 5-10 minute sketch every time? Absolutely. would I lose anything at all if the AI collapsed and I couldn't use it? I don't really think so, it's like that kitchen gadget, you can cook without it, but you end up using it just because you have it there. Edit: Forgot to mention, I always love your art and your videos.
