Our minds took 3.8 billion years to develop into a conscious state. Each cell has its own memory and energy. Artificial Intelligence, even general intelligence is a sequence of code based on faulty dynamics initially generated by the U.S. Army and then by Bill Gates' theft of someone's operating system. No matter how smart it gets, its just code. This is not an endorsement for the idea of a soul in living matter (let alone people) but the simple truth of the difference between machines and life. Machines cannot suffer no matter how sophisticated they become, at least not based on these computer systems. If we made a brain from scratch and based it on an entirely new number sequence and gave it 'positronics' and it mimicked animal brains, then perhaps. But so far? An imitation. a fake version a simulacrum. Toasters don't feel.
