I think you're missing one key point, Robert, which is that the stock market doesn't go up because profits go up. That would belie a more egalitarian world. The stock market continues to go up based on the MERE SUGGESTION that profits MIGHT increase after the integration of AI (read: corporate spyware) into all levels of corporate infrastructure. The stock market is nothing more than betting on potential future outcomes, it is no longer correlated to economic reality. So yes, it is very possible for the stock market to continue to soar upwards while the majority of Americans live in squalor. We're simply not a part of the system anymore.
