No matter what people think, AI can create wonderful things *with the help and guidance of someone with a real vision*, that hold real value - and yes, those things are just as much 'art' as anything created with any other medium - but as with any other created thing, what separates 'art' from 'object' is the humanity (expression, emotion, work) that has gone into it.
On it's own, AI art tends to be fairly sterile, but in the hands of an artist, it can be used, like any other 'tool' to create something both amazing to look at, and expressive enough to be worthy of contemplation.
I also don't think 'people created' art is going anywhere. Yes, many jobs in artistic fields will be lost to AI - welcome to the world of technological progress - BUT *there will ALWAYS be a demand for something created through 'blood, sweat and tears' - by hands alone*, in much the same way that machines have long-since taken over the creation of things like clothing, toys, stuffed animals, etc. for a very long time now, BUT this has also made the things made by human hands only more special, and consequently more valuable as well.
Just take a look at any marketplace like Etsy, where hand-made goods can fetch a premium, because they are special and unique - and people will always want things made by people no matter what our machines can do.
So many people here with the idea that "Ai art is Rubbish" - and while I understand the sentiment, I would urge you to not be so basic. *In the hands of someone with a genuine vision and care for what they are doing* (aka, an *artist*) AI tools can be used to create something really wonderful - and worthy of the designation as 'real art'.
That being said, just slapping in a prompt and holding up the results and calling it art is, imo, akin to banging on a synthesizer preset and calling yourself a musician.
The synthesizer isn't where the problem is, it's in the person using it.
I do, however, agree that something 'hand crafted' will always hold special value, beyond what any digital tools can reproduce; and there will ALWAYS be a place for it.
In fact, in much the same way as 'Hand-Crafted' Etsy clothes, toys, etc. fetch a premium in a world where machines can create them at a dollar a dozen, Hand-Crafted ART will only become more special (and thus, valuable) in a world where fancy pictures are made in seconds by machines.
So, my advice to you (whomever may be reading this) as an artist is, use whatever tools you have at your disposal to create art as you see fit, for whatever purpose you intend to use it for - but if you choose to go the 'traditional' route as a career path, rather than try to 'compete' with the world of AI art, instead put your focus on sharing with the world a piece of yourself (and choose whatever marketplace favours 'hand crafted').
