Hallucinations occur because they did not program in one little thing ... the part where it says "I don't know." and like humans with large egos but don't know X ... they lie. It's simple. And no, LLMs will not get us to real AI. They've been working on this since the 50s. We wouldn't be in this mess if the powers that be didn't need something to keep the hype up when the cryptobros crashed and burned a few years ago.
