We are in the middle of an "AI apocalypse" for a very long time. Hundreds if not thousands of years actually.
The problem is not if intelligent "recommendation algorithms" go wild and decide that we all need to watch cooking shows suddenly. Oopsie! It's not about if a program can write a program faster than the human that told it to do so. It's not about if an AI can make post-stamps at all cost (shoutout to post-stamp-bot). The true problem is *anything* deciding *artificially* about why I -- Aye! You! -- need to act this or that way, or think about something from this or that perspective. This artificial thinking (thinking not done by me but for me) created any -ism ever: racism, nationalism, religionism, sexism, ageism, ableism, ... any kind of othering. This never has served anything but itself and its proponents.
What real people need are other real people debating about and solving real concerns from within their real society. The tools that are used to create all the distraction (AI being just another more extreme example) might change, but their current nature is irrelevant to the root matter at hand.
