The issue with the whole “democratising art” debacle is that artists seem to purposefully miss the point. It’s not about how expensive art is. It’s not about how hard reaching the top is. The whole “pick up the pen” is the single worst point there is. It’s what makes normal people so mad at artists, aside from their general political patterns. Because, rather obviously, the whole point is about TIME. People DO NOT WANT to learn. They just want to create funny shit for shits and giggles. Art is fundamentally a product. People want art to enjoy it, not to show appreciation to artists. If AI can do it for free while an artist charges (and nags) you, then obviously, you will pick the free option unless you have an actual purpose for this art, like companies often times do. In which case they usually still hire artists. And if AI gets BETTER than artists, then that’s it. I don’t actually think this will happen, tho, because real top class art requires humanity on them. I truly do think so. Also, last but not least, the whole “please ask for consent before stealing my art” is a bit of a hilarious debate when you guys publish it for free online. That’s not a real debate at all. You either lock it behind a paywall or you don’t.
