Am gonna play devil's advocate, Not to the video at most but few parts to using Miyazaki's word as a way of criticism to AI art (by the way am not pro AI art or anything.)
First let's starts with the context. First the famous clip is from a documentary where some engineers showed him an AI-generated animation, and he responded by saying it was "an insult to life itself." AI critics love to bring this up as if it’s the ultimate argument against AI art. He wasn’t commenting on all AI-generated works, just on one awkward, unnatural animation that he found disturbing.
Second, the argument is weak as it just purely am Appeal to authority fallacy, as just because Miyazaki is a legendary animator doesn’t mean his opinion is the absolute truth.
Now on to the next Fallacy I see alot from people.
Strawman Fallacy, Critics often misrepresent AI artists as people who just "press a button and steal art," ignoring those who refine, edit, and create hybrid pieces.
AI artists don’t just type in a prompt and call it a day (at least the good ones don’t). They Curate and refine prompts like a director guiding a production.Edit, enhance, and remix outputs using Photoshop or digital tools.Combine AI with traditional techniques to create hybrid art. It’s more of a collaborative process rather than AI doing all the work alone.People assume AI artists just press a button and steal art. Some think AI will replace traditional artists (which is unlikely).Gatekeeping ,Some artists don’t want new tools lowering the skill barrier.
And yes, more fallacys.
Appeal to Tradition fallacy ,The idea that "real artists" must create everything manually because that’s how it has always been done. This ignores how every new art tool (photography, digital painting, 3D modeling) faced similar backlash.Slippery Slope fallacy, Some claim AI art will inevitably destroy human creativity, even though history shows new technology usually expands creative possibilities rather than eliminating them.False Dichotomy fallacy, The belief that art must be either "fully human-made" or "fully AI-made," ignoring the fact that many AI artists blend both.Genetic Fallacy – Dismissing AI art simply because it was generated by a machine, rather than judging it by its quality or impact is literally anti-art(If don't believe this, give a real reason not a emotional reason.)
Overall,At its core, AI is just another tool—like cameras, digital brushes, or 3D software. Every new art tool in history faced resistance, but eventually, people adapted. The real question isn’t whether AI can be art, but how artists choose to use it.
Am been Kessler the yapper. Hope you feel better and have awesome day.
