This is spitballing, but I believe that this is absolutely intended. When you've stripped people of the memory of their autonomy by giving them such convenient access to something that does all their thinking and research for them, it's a lot easier to sell them on an ai assistant to handle things like shopping. Sellers, of course, can pay to boost their product
