To add onto your point about "inspiration", an example I often use when explaining this concept to other people is a chair. You can ask a multitude of artists who have studied the work of Van Gogh to paint a chair in his style. And no matter what, no matter how well they know his work, it will never look the same as if you had Van Gogh paint the chair instead. Why? Because they have different lived experiences. If I personally had to paint the chair, I'd be influenced by technical drawing classes I took and the constraints and budget cuts they had that I had to work around with my teachers. I'd be inspired by my art teachers who encouraged me and taught me how to convey form. I'd be inspired by the teachers at my college I met who forced me to further my skills, and I'd be inspired by Proko who has amazing tutorials on anatomy but sudo teaches form and simplification in a way that can be applied to many topics. But it'd also be influenced by my personal life. I have Autism, ADHD and Tourette's Syndrome so my social life growing up wasn't exactly easy. I started taking art seriously when I was twelve because I had no friends. I struggled with relationships all through my teenage years and was harassed constantly. My art was influenced by maladaptive daydreams and I motivated myself to get through with life just so I could get home and draw the characters in my head. And I started developing other technical skills to support them. I ended up leaving school earlier than I'd planned to because of the bullying and harassment and ended up pursuing art full time at college because I pretty much had no choice if I wanted my body and mind to continue functioning. So when I paint a chair, even if I know Van Gogh's MOs and techniques perfectly, I'd never be able to create it perfectly in his style because my journey with art was so different to his. I learned my skills at a different age to him, hold my tools different in my Tourette's inflicted body, see my environment differently, and have had completely different relationships with different people. All of that life experience goes into a painting of a chair. AI is made without these experiences. It compiles the relationships and lives of various different people without actually understanding what that means and creates a soulless, lifeless outcome with no story behind it. So if it were to generate a chair in the style of Van Gogh, it not only wouldn't be able to get it right, but it'd have none of the experiences to relate to what Van Gogh's art means.
