The issue is multiple, tesla cut corners with obstacle detection. Lidar and sonar are second opinion for the AI to take a decision and validate the data as machine vision is far from perfection as of now. Think of it as alpha phase early testing and you are the tester.
Buyers are also not educated properly on how this works and are way too distracted while using their tesla. Because the seller has a motivation to sell and not educate or make the customer aware.
And lastly the governement allows those loops holes to be exploited and make tesla not disclose the data because it's "protected". In aviation and railway, none of that would be tolerated.
