Why instead of working 40-60 hours a week, dial it down to 20-30 (or less), same amount of money running in the economy. We can't outrun the limits of productivity or resource transformation anyway, so if AI does make things so efficient, it's time to dial down the work and really start thinking on how to build community again, and how we can become more pleasant to be around within ourselves and to others. The problem is that we are looking at a solution that will disrupt the current system, expecting the system to utilise the same transformational capacity. This doesn't math, and honestly, it no longer fits in the current paradigm (it was already at breaking point with millions of bullshit jobs... AI will now take care of the bullshit and everyone is now running around like headless chickens). The only solution is to dial down what will be an excess of work. It's the only thing that is out of balance when weighing the system. Free money with idle time is a bad idea, though. Unless we collectively make an effort (which judging how things came out of the pandemic, won't happen) to make conscious use of free time and give it a purpose for self or communal benefit, most people will use their time scrolling or instagraming. I'm thinking that this is not the overlords plan (this technology has it's own momentum; it has rails because the systemic supermachine itself drives where it has to go), they simply have ran out of ideas and are running for the boats. The thing is that this time, if we do not force a tweak in the system (less work) and change our collective behaviours (how we use our free time), we will be the victims of our own incapability to organise ourselves. There is no solution, really, but it's an option of a rough landing or crashing and burning.
