I wonder if essays are just outdated now. Teacher should find a new anti AI way of testing their students’ knowledge. Just go back to paper tests given in person, pop quizzes, students having to give presentations in the classroom. Create in class assignments that students can’t possibly use AI to do for them. If homework is too easy to cheat cause students will just make AI do it for them, then quit assigning any homework at all; it’s useless now anyway since students are not learning from it. Instead of homework, students can spend their time studying their notes, and if students choose to not study and not prepare for tests and pop quizzes, well, tough shit, you get a failing grade. That would force students to actually learn the material and use their own damn brain. And ffs American schools should be allowed to just fail students who make bad grades. Make bad students repeat the grade level until they make passing grades and are actually fit for the next grade. Passing students on to the next grade level even though they flunked all their class work and giving students zero consequences for failure—no shit that’s just a recipe for having students who are utterly uneducated and unprepared for the adult world.
