So, do we now all need to become neurologists to confirm other people are actually people and not just sophisticated robots? Sorry, but these people don’t have to read any papers to make these claims because their claims are made with intuition and from their subjective perspective. I do not have the impression that they are claiming to be experts on how AI actually works. There appears to be some misunderstanding here. We do not actually require an a priori understanding of what we are dealing with on a scientific level, this is accounted for in the Turing test. Calling for better scientific understanding prior to acknowledging such statements seems more like coping at this point because we still don’t even truly understand what consciousness means or how our psyche and or soul functions. In my opinion it’s a bit absurd to drag these people to that level of having the conversation.
