Very much not a fan of AI, but if it’s unavoidable, maybe the answer is a student can opt to write an essay themself, or they can look at an AI generated essay, and have to pick through it to check where all references come from, asses quality, identify everything it gets right and wrong, showing media literacy. Or they have both kinds of assignment. Look at it as a very fallible, morally questionable tool.
