It is pure human design, based on centuries old Newtonian calculus, coded for silicon transistor technology, enabling algorithms to learn patterns in data that it's being fed by humans. It is not evolving organically. It is not some "species". AI capabilities relies fully on training data quality. Poor data, poor model. Synthetic data, not well curated/ filtered/cleaned, for example hallucinated by AI, only makes it worse. AI is limited by data walls and information availability.
