AI images don't use pictures to directly create new ones. They use the images in the dataset to teach the AI how to take an image from noise (like the white static from old TVs) given a certain prompt. So that when they learn, you put a prompt, they generate noise and take the image (or images) from that prompt. The dataset is used to learn how to make a random image, not to mold a specific one. It is very similar to how artists learn by using and studying other images. A lot of artists (if not all) use already created images, without the consent of the artist, to draw new ones or simply to practice. Is it now unethical to do so? That practice will build the new artist's skill, with which they could generste profit. If AI art steals, wouldn't that count to stealing as well? The only thing that makes me doubt about this whole thing is having images in the dataset by people without their consent. I'm not sure how to feel about it, i think they should have their consent. But there are 2 points here: 1. It is practically no different from artists using other art to learn or practice, and it really annoys me how artists like this video's try to put it in another way. 2. Where's the source? The proof? I see a lot of people saying they take those images without their consent. Where's the proof to the existence of this images in the dataset? I understand artists are anxious if they see their jobs are in danger, but i don't think we should stop the technology because of that. Should we ride in horse carriages so that the past carriages drivers have a job again instead of driving in cars? Should we unlearn how to write so that scribes have a job again? We discover technologies that makes us able to do certain tasks or to have results that previously were made by a human. Now is the time for the artist. I wouldn't, by any means, stop the technology, but perhaps I would make it a little bit slower to take place in the market so that nowadays artists are able to learn other skills so that they can find other jobs in time.
