There are people who can't drive due to a disability or age. I'd rather have a self-driving car than my blind friend or a fragile senior behind the wheel. Uber can be frightening for people who are worried about driving with a stranger, and can be expensive if you need it to be your primary form of transportation. Not everyone has the support of friends and families to take them where they need to go when they can't drive themselves.
