I can't imagine what it's like for young people these days. I'm a baby boomer and have had careers in Silicon Valley, advertising, and now higher education. I'd like to say that when I retire in 4 years, they'll hire a young person, but they won't. They'll hire three part-time instructors who are in their late 30's and their 40's because those are the people who have the masters' or doctorate needed to work at a community college or university. Conversely, I teach many young people who have absolutely no interest in working a regular 8 hour a day, 40 hour a week job. They all want full-time pay for a part-time job. I don't know what that job might be, so I cannot prepare them for these theoretical high-paying positions.
