To be clear, ChatGPT IS smart. It DOES display complex reasoning. There is absolutely, unequivocally intelligence there. It's just not directed towards being helpful in any way, because we don't know how to get it to deprioritise sycophancy. Does that sound like an impossible problem to solve?
