the incentives for these companies to tread ahead is the rivalry, that china would do it first if we don't. the problem is the difference in human ethics. the goal is knowledge and control of all humans within the system. i'm not saying one is more ethical or not but there's a difference in ideas surrounding compassion and leniency on the two different civilizations. ai is an inevitability but the belief that above all is just finite math and I's and O's is the hardest part of the equation. wherever the people followed the hard factual truth, they have faced problems. where they used intuition (which AI still doesn't quite have right yet and i suppose it will sound like white noise chatter based on the level of connectivity or region of the brain), they have done a little better. i've witnessed it. china will have its own challenges. one is the overreach of singular dictator type fatherfigures who tend to fall to megalomaniacal behavior such as the hard measures taken against covid for way too long in china...this was the panic and fear of the CCP (or a show to make known to the world it really wasn't their virus while saving money to keep people on lockdown). either way, the challenge will be exactly this next race...not an arms race, not a space race, but a AI race. all this while more and more starts attaching itself to central electrical power grids everywhere in the world. I DONT THINK its out of GODS imagination. I think its very doable...but very dangerous.
