You can blame AI along with all the other issues over the last 50 years, but any path out of this that could be called "good" will necessarily involve huge policy shifts that will provoke major societal shifts as well simply from the scale of change need. It's like putting off going to the doctor for 5 decades. Once you go the news won't be good. The guys with the money and the authority to decide these things are investing in farmland, private islands, bunkers, and long shot rockets to Mars. Thiel is already talking openly about throwing humanity in general into the meat grinder as his preferred solution to all of it. They want Elysium, ultimately, and they'll get it without something else changing to stop them.
