I seriously doubt Amodei is naive, so short of outright lying I don't know how to explain that statement. One of the main selling points of AI, and a major reason AI companies are spending hundreds of billions of dollars, is to enable businesses that employ their AI products to save large amounts of money on salaries by having AI do jobs people previously did.
This is not speculation – many of the AI companies have that goal written in their company statements and platforms. It's not hidden – all there to read publicly.
So this idea that everyone who will be made redundant by AI will use AI to find new, gainful employment is not only pie in the sky, but runs counter to a key reason why AI is being developed.
