If the truly powerful people in power can replace manual labor to produce what they need and provide the services they need, they don't need to sell anything, just produce what they need. However, before the reality depicted in the film Elysium occurs, we will likely see many wars, chaos, and a significant population reduction. I really don't know how to predict the future, but in this dramatic scenario that seems possible due to the development of AI, futuristic films that predict the end of humanity or a transformation of humans into a symbiosis of "silicon" and organic material are feasible. The whole problem revolves around human nature, which, despite having left the jungle, the jungle hasn't left us; the rules of competition, survival, and fear of the other remain as real as they always were.
