She was kinder than I would’ve been. To try and minimize artists and their accomplishments is saddening. Especially BECAUSE there isn’t a rare gene or whatever that these AI supporters are fantasizing about. Everyone is capable and it doesn’t come easy. We all learn at different paces and you become proud of all your work as you finally see progress and improvement. Because these AI supporters don’t try to use organic, original methods, they can’t feel the same satisfaction. LavenderTowne does bring up the excellent point of negative feedback and discouraging criticism many face when first starting. It’s sad to see, cause it is highly likely in some cases. My sister used to find excitement in creating her own work. I tried to provide helpful criticism and advice, I encouraged her, I complimented her artwork too. But others were overwhelmingly negative and she saw the experiential gap we both had. By the point she was interested in learning and trying art, I had been practicing for years. So she began to compare herself and similarly said I was “born with talent” and she wasn’t. It was so depressing seeing her give up. 💔
