A few days ago I was talking to a friend about chickens and they mentioned a purple feathered chicken breed that I’d never heard of. So I googled “purple chicken” and literally every image on the first page of image search was AI. All of them. I had to be more specific by adding words like “bread” and “real” before I found actual photos of the real chickens. If I hadn’t been told by my friend that purple hens are real and had just had a random thought wandering if there are purple chickens instead before googling I’d have assumed from the image search results that they didn’t exist which is why all the pics were made up. And AI image gen has only been around a couple years. Give it another 5 years at this rate of slop generation and you’re just not going to be able to find real images of a lot of things. It’ll make the internet entirely useless for transmitting factual information because no matter how hard anyone tries to spread knowledge they’ll be drowned out by the overwhelming volume of slop
