If things continue in this trajectory,
Even if almost everyone gets fired, a very small section will remain employed. Since the cost of production will be so cheap (because of the automation), companies will be able to stay afloat if just that small employed section buys their stuff.
As for the rest (unemployed), they'll eventually die off. Most of the unemployed won't have children because who wants to bring children into this world if they have no future? (some will still copulate of course , but most won't. And don't start with the "poor have more children". Things have changed and people are (typically) more educated and aware of the situation of the world, and also more concerned about their next generation than before).
I had this discussion with a stranger on YouTube a couple years ago, and we both came to this conclusion.
