Enormous mining dump trucks running SAE Level 4 have been in operation for at least 15years, on remote mining sites here in Western Australia. They have driver controls, but are only used for refueling and repair. Of course they only operate in a constrained environment, other traffic requires transponders and are not permitted anywhere near operating trucks. The autonomous trucks usually run for many hours until an operator is required for refueling. Its weird to watch them drive around with no one in them.
